In the past many marketers thought that creating content was enough to succeed in SEO. The idea that “content is king” was very popular in marketing for a long time.. The way search works has changed and just publishing good content is not enough to be visible online.

Today people search for things on different platforms and tools like traditional search engines and AI systems. Because of this the same content might show up on one platform but not on another. Each tool has its way of choosing what sources to show so optimizing for just one search engine does not guarantee visibility everywhere.

Another challenge is that AI search tools get information from more websites than traditional search engines. They might even cite sites that not many people visit. The sources they reference can change often. Studies show that the websites AI tools cite for the question can change a lot in a short time.

Because of these changes marketers need to focus on sharing and promoting content, not just creating it. This means sharing content on media working with partners getting mentioned in PR and using third-party platforms. The places you share content the more likely it is that search engines and AI systems will find and reference it.

SEO professionals need to have a plan. Working with media teams, PR specialists and community managers is now very important. Of just trying to rank high in search results the goal is to be strong on many different platforms where people and AI systems can find the content.

In short, modern SEO is not about writing great articles. It is about how well you share and promote that content online. When businesses have content and a strong plan to share it they have a much better chance of being found and cited online.
